Mini folding screen Yawata Taro Yoshiie's Eastern Conquest (Go Sannen role)

Famous Japanese folding screen, two folding screens, right twin, ceremony just before going into battle

Minamoto no Yoshiie was a military commander in the late Heian period.
He is also known as Hachimantaro.

He is the eldest son of Iyo no kami Minamoto no Yoriyoshi. He was the ancestor of Minamoto no Yoritomo, who later established the Kamakura shogunate, and Takauji Ashikaga, who later established the Muromachi shogunate.

In the mid-11th century, a revolt broke out in Oshu, and Minamoto no Yoriyoshi was appointed Mutsu Governor and General of the Chinjufu, and together with his son Yoshiie, fought in two battles: the War of the First Nine Years and the War of the Second Year. This has been calmed down.

This map depicts Yawata Taro Yoshiie's expedition during the Go Sannen War (1083-1087).
Uso depicts a tense scene in which members of the clan and retainers gather to make preparations for departure to Oshu, and are busy with the ritual just before going to war.

The left side depicts the lord and servant of Minamoto no Yoshiie heading for Michinoku with his fierce warriors at his side.

His depictions of warriors and mountains are excellent, and he uses the Tosa school style of brushwork to capture the essence of his subjects.

Yoshishu Sumiyoshi (~died in 1987)
He entered the gates of Hiromori Sumiyoshi, a prominent figure in the Tosa school, and became the founder of the Itaya school.

He was a Yamato-e painter in the Tosa style, served as an official painter for the shogunate, and was particularly good at portraiture.
